Registered Nurse - Diabetes Nurse Educator

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to be part of our Diabetes team at Waitaki District Health Services Ltd.(Oamaru Hospital). This is a 0.4 FTE (2 days a week) position.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurse with extensive clinical expertise in diabetes or a special interest in diabetes. Friendly, adaptable and professional with a desire for the best outcome for the client and a passion for seeking knowledge is a must. Our close-knit team works with our small but diverse North Otago Community.

The role has a specialty focus on supporting people with diabetes and their whanau, includes teaching other health professionals and the facilitation of both formal and informal learning opportunities. 

This is a multi-faceted position working with both inpatient and outpatient presentations, alongside a multi-disciplinary team. 

The successful candidate will be supported and encouraged to further their education and knowledge in diabetes.

To be considered, candidates must have or demonstrate:

  • Clinical expertise within diabetes care or a special interest in the same.
  • Current Registration and annual practicing certificate
  • The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused
  • Proven ability in working autonomously and collaboratively with the client, community and other health professionals.
  • Good time management and the ability to manage work in a planned and co-ordinated manner.
  • Post-Graduate Nursing Qualification (or working towards)
  • Current Driver Licence
