LMC Midwife

Employed LMC Midwife 0.6 FTE position available now.

We are seeking a Registered Midwife to work within our amazing team. You must have a passion for working in a rural location while providing comfort and support to women and their whanau planning to birth at our local primary birthing unit or at home. We also provide antenatal and postnatal care to women who choose/need to birth at Queen Mary in Dunedin. This role offers autonomy and close working relationships with women (wāhine), family (whānau) and your midwifery colleagues within a flexible fortnightly rotating roster. Working alongside two other pairs allows for a healthy work-life balance while providing a midwifery led, whanau centred service with the security of being salaried with paid holiday and sick leave entitlements.

This is an excellent role for a midwife looking for a new challenge or a change of pace as you will be able to provide an excellent level of maternity care and build relationships with our women and their families due to the nature of our service in the Waitaki. The successful applicant will have access to a shared vehicle and be provided with all equipment necessary to provide optimal care.

We need you to:

  • Have current registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and ideally no restrictions or endorsements on your practice eg, be able to prescribe, undertake full newborn checks
  • Be able to demonstrate understanding of and responsibilities under the principles of te Tiriti, Waitangi Treaty of Waitangi
  • Have a current Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA) Police Safety and Vetting Check within the last 12 months
  • Have an understanding of LMC care in the New Zealand midwifery context and providing labour and birth secondary care
  • Be competent in the use of the Guidelines for Consultation with Obstetric and Related Medical Services (Referral Guidelines)
  • Have the ability to quickly build strong community relationships
  • Be able to work well in a team environment as well as manage your own caseload
  • Be strongly self-motivated, autonomous and have high professional standards
  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver’s licence with no endorsements or restrictions
