RSV – VISITING RESTRICTIONS TO OAMARU HOSPITAL
From 16th July 2021: Oamaru Hospital is currently placing restrictions on visitors to all departments within the hospital (E.D, the Ward, Maternity, Radiology, Outpatients and District Nursing) to help prevent further spread of RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) to newborn babies and sick children.
In particular, we ask that only parents and main caregivers visit our maternity unit until further notice, to help protect newborn babies and sick children from the virus.

Visiting hours are currently 2.00pm - 7.00pm daily

Case Loading LMC Midwife - fixed term

0.8 FTE Fixed Term position to cover parental leave

Beginning September 2021 and ending end of May 2022

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic midwife to join our supportive team as a Case Loading LMC Midwife. We provide continuity of care to the women and whanau/families of Oamaru. This is a fixed term position from September 2021 – May 2022 to cover parental leave.

Our Case Loading LMC Midwives have a capped caseload and are offered competitive remuneration with MERAS safe staffing levels. We have our own MERAS Collective Employment Agreement, not the DHB MECCA.

Oamaru Maternity Centre is a rural midwifery led primary birthing unit. The centre has 2 birthing rooms, one with a lovely birthing pool, 3 postnatal rooms and 2 antenatal clinic rooms. Our Case Loading LMC midwives are supported in the Centre by experienced Core Midwives, Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses.

We currently have a 30% primary birthing unit rate at Oamaru Maternity and an approx. 10% homebirth rate, which is steadily increasing, both with excellent outcomes. We provide midwifery care to around 240 women per year. When necessary we transfer to Queen Mary Maternity in Dunedin for secondary care where we hand over to the core staff and return to Oamaru with the ambulance.

All equipment is provided e.g. car, petrol, phone, laptop and midwifery gear.

Come and experience quiet rural living with a great work life balance. Oamaru is a lovely, friendly town with affordable housing and plenty nearby to see and do.
