COVID-19 (Corona Virus) - 10th Mar 2020

Waitaki District Health Services Limited is currently asking the public to:

  • In the first instance, if you are unwell and have symptoms that may be Covid-19, or have travelled from high risk countries, or been in contact with someone that is suspected Covid-19, please phone Healthline on 0800 358 5453.  Please DO NOT just turn up to ED.
  • Note that as the layout of the hospital requires the public to walk through the building, we are asking those attending ED to utilise the side ‘after hours’ door at all times.  We are working with council to have four parks outside the side door of ED designated for people attending ED, these will be signposted once in place.  In addition, some of our doors will be closed and have ‘swipe card’ access for staff only.  Please ask for directions if you are unsure where to go.
  • As we are keeping ED for those that need it most, we may redirect you to your GP if it is appropriate.
  • If you have any appointment at the hospital and are unwell with flu-like symptoms, please phone the hospital as the appointment can be changed.
  • If you have friends or family in hospital, please stay away if you are not well
  • Be reminded that visiting hours are 12.30 to 7.30pm.  We will be enforcing this more strictly in order to reduce the chances of spread of any infections or illness to our unwell patients. Visiting outside these hours may be permitted in special circumstances by agreement.
